Joseph Knize, one of its inventors lived in Vienna and was a supplier to the Royal and Imperial Court. The fragrance we offer, Knize Ten, has been available since 1925. The great author Hans Habe once said that, if he were cast away on a desert island, he would take Knize with him, since, for a man using a toilet water, it was really not so much a matter of undermining the morale of a beautiful woman than boosting one's own.
The brilliant designer and poster artist Ernst Deutsch-Dryden played a decisive role in the composition of Knize. Knize was the most famous men's outfitter in Vienna. His shop still exists today with a much-admired interior, one of the great works of the architect and designer Adolf Loos. Knize Ten is one of the few fragrances to have distinct note of leather. Perfumers, who are capable of lyricism equal to that of wine connoisseurs, differentiate between the top, heart and base note of a fragrance and sense chords and cadences in the combination of these three. The top note of Knize is citrus-fresh with petitgrain, orange, rosemary and bergamot; the heart note is dry to woody with cedars and sandalwood, and the base note is leathery with castor and ambergris. In view of its age, Knize is not, of course, a fully synthetic perfume. It contains costly natural substances - patchouli wood, lemon, orris, clove and orange blossom amongst others.
Lemon, bergamot, orange, petitgrain, rosemary, geranium, rose, cedar, orris, carnation, cinnamon, orange blossom, sandalwood, leather, musk, moss, patchouli, ambergris, castoreum and vanilla.
Knize Ten is a perfect old school gentleman’s fragrance! Great for young & old.
There’s a reason folks like Luca Turin and Andy Tauer reference this fragrance. Get some from Scentsplit and see why KT is a 10 and a benchmark reference point for modern perfumers. On my skin, castoreum and leather notes frolic in a bed of geraniums and carnations. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. Try it! KT will make you understand what you love to wear. It does make demands!
This is an amazing cologne and better than many costing much more. Leathery and powdery, strong projection and long-lasting.
Smells like nothing else out there. It has been around since the 20s.This magic liquid will most definitely make you feel like royalty.
Knize Ten is definitely a classic gentleman’s fragrance. A fragrance I thoroughly enjoy. In my opinion it’s an elevated barbershop fragrance, an elegant aftershave, perhaps; a scent that a man might feel “in character” wearing. In my experience, Knize Ten doesn’t last a long time, maybe three hours or so, but that may be in part to my bias to ration my application of it due to the limited volume of the sample size I ordered. Perhaps if applied with a pump as opposed to dabbing with my finger or pouring a small amount into my palm to apply it to my skin, the scent may prove to be more tenacious. The sillage leaves something to be desired. It certainly didn’t project heavily off of my skin. Again, maybe I was just stingy in applying the fragrance in an effort to stretch my sample too far. Overall I’m very happy that I sampled Knize Ten. It is a fragrance that I’d wear more for my own pleasure and nostalgic desires than one I’d wear on a first date. I would buy it again and I would definitely buy a larger size than just the sample. Knize Ten will not be my signature scent, but it will be a very nice fragrance to have in my collection.
