After the success of Desir Toxic in 2019, the French house of jewelry, Micallef releases an intense variation with a more profound aromatic and fougere-leaning olfactory profile, named Desir Toxic Intense.
The star of the show is still the cannabis note as it was in the original edition, but this time it’s supported by juicy blackcurrant to make it smell like a fresh take on vintage fragrances from about 50 years ago. It's sharp, spicy, and woody—definitely more of a fougère-chypre than the sweet, dessert-like colognes most guys are wearing today.
Since cannabis in perfumes is getting off the center of attention, the perfumer toned it down here. Instead, they added some bright green notes and cool cardamom spice right up front, along with a fiery touch of saffron. The heart of the scent still has that herbal cannabis feel, but it’s surrounded by fruity blackcurrant and a punch of sweet mint, like the vibrant combination of its taste and flavor smashed under your teeth.
They also cranked up the patchouli, made the leathery, animalic part of the cannabis more intense, and stripped out all the sugary notes—no vanilla sweetness left here. Just a tiny bit of benzoin and balsamic resins were kept, only enough to hold the scent together.
One interesting detail: even though this fragrance has nothing to do with fresh, ocean-like scents, Micallef put it in a blue bottle. It’s kind of unexpected since bright blue isn’t a color you see often in nature, except for water and air when there’s a lot of it around.
