Boris Bidjan Saberi is an avant-garde Germany-based fashion designer who recently joined the realm of perfumes, first with his eponymous debut and now with the second delivery, named Angir; a perfume in which there are no soft landings nor a scent for the unsure. It arrives with a kind of whispered violence, an unlit fire still smoldering from ancient rites.
With a paradoxical complexity of abrasiveness and tenderness, the perfume uncorks on the skin. There is a hint of smoke and the very black-leathery quality that pairs the smoke tea and raspberry in Russian Tea Sample by Masque Milano. It soothes on skin with an aftertaste of a succulent fig, infused entirely into the leather. If we compare Angir to food, it is a salad in which all the ingredients are mixed but not merged. It means you clearly get every single smell, and it’s what makes this perfume a joyous, fresh, fruity leather composition.
Fresh? Yes, of course. There is a bold hint of ginger beer in the blend that registers for pleasure and joy. The leather note reads industrial rather than equestrian—like hides blackened and tanned in smokehouses. There’s a chromed quality here, equal to leather designs of the fashion designer; a sense of oil and heat, as if metal and flesh had fused. The effect is deeply tactile, yet avoids any conventional warmth.
If there’s sweetness in it, it’s the bitter kind—dark balsamic resins with no honeyed softness. Think ink, dried and cracking on parchment. Think cold charcoal, still smelling of fire but long since extinguished. It speaks in fragments, like a forgotten dialect re-learned in dreams.
Longevity is significant, and this perfume clings with quiet force. It doesn’t announce itself in clouds; it breathes close but vivid, like breath through gauze. Sillage is moderate but persistent, like a mark not easily washed away.
