Cape Heartache is the lone American contribution to Philip Sava`s wildly popular series of exploration novels. It is based loosely on an expedition he made to the Pacific Northwest as a teenager in 1881 and is generally regarded as the most candid of his works. Revolving around a homestead he built in a coastal grove of old growth trees, the novel documents his romance with a young woman who was a descendent of the Nehalem Indian Tribe. Its themes of leaving the familiar and finding comfort and solace in a new place still resonate today.
WHEN TO WEAR: For any new adventure including, but not limited to, beach bonfires, first dates, party crashing, or simply barhopping alone on a rainy night. Like a scarf, wear Cape Heartache in the fall and winter and observe how people gravitate to your warmth.
NOTES: Douglas Fir, Pine Resin, Western Hemlock, Vanilla Leaf, Strawberry, Old Growth, Mountain Fog
PNW born and raised. F/24. This smells like home. It has incredible longevity, and it will be my new go to winter fragrance. I was nervous about smelling like Febreze but every note is authentic and reminiscent to me. I don’t smell the strawberry, at all. That being said, I am perfectly happy with the fragrance and I do not need the strawberry in order to love it, the multifaceted evergreen notes are perfect for me.
This is a pleasant, outdoorsy scent. Right up front it gives you a big hit of evergreen, woody and resinous. The berry sweetness takes the lead a little while later as the wood fades out. If you want to smell like a hazy summer afternoon in the Olympic National Forest, this is the closest thing to it I've ever come across.
Not my kind of fragrance at all, even though it was described with a collection of interesting notes. I was especially excited for the coniferous and other woody notes, but I didn’t get them. Everything was smeared in a sweet but thin incense. The sweetness originally attended the artificial strawberry, but even the strawberry disintegrated into cheap, chalky, sweet incense. 2 stars because it had decent longevity, for those who may like this fragrance, otherwise it would be 1 star.
