The future of human identity in the face of biotechnology isn’t necessarily the kind of subject that most fragrances consider, but Etat Libre d’Orange has never been too concerned with following convention. And we’re all luckier for that, because The Ghost In The Shell- a fragrance made in collaboration with legendary Japanese manga creator Masamune Shirow- dives headlong into the convergence between the natural and the artificial, using a unique blend of cutting edge synthetics and natural fragrant materials to achieve the flesh-and-machine synthesis that French philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (whose work inspired Shirow) envisioned as the next leap forward for humankind. But enough about French transhumanist philosophy and genre-defining cyberpunk manga (!), how does it actually smell? Surprisingly bright and clean, as it turns out, as the fragrance is based on a gentle and breezy jasmine absolute with a pop of fresh, tart yuzu and smooth moss- the “human” heart of the scent- blended with a complex set of cutting edge synthetics that provide subtle but long-lasting milky, musky, gently powdery depth. In much the same way that bio-modification may someday soon be all around us without being visible to the naked eye, this is a skin scent that turns out to be much more than it initially appears- extremely subtle, but deeply enveloping, soft and soothing but with a dynamic, futuristic musky edge. If you’re looking for an everyday-perfect skin musk with a uniquely compelling freshness (and a very cool tie-in to one of the most revered properties in anime/manga), consider The Ghost In The Shell to be your own personal biohack.

Citrusy...

Definitely "clean girl" aesthetic but was VERY yuzu heavy on my skin. I like clean but it was too cotrusy for my taste. Couldn't get past it even in the dry down

Clean!!

Wow, had small hopes for this. My initial first sniff was that it was too strong and not feminine enough for me. Went back the next day and decided to test it on me for the night. I could not stop smelling my arms. I dont get the milky scent at all but a sharp fresh clean scent. Almost smells like a bar of dove or coast soap. Like a clean girl fresh out of the shower. Love to wear it to bed every night now!

What an amazing scent! I haven't found anything else like it before. Sweet, airy, light, musky, milky. 5 stars.

Clean Girl Scent

While these types of scents are not usually what I would go for, for a blind buy I was definitely not disappointed. It’s not my favourite as I tend to lean towards more gourmand scents or something very lactonic. This perfume smells like that fresh out the shower scent that you associate with just a very clean person. I was lured in by the promise of milk notes in there, and to be fair, it does have a lactonic quality to it. It just so happens though that my skin more so picks up the skin musk element of this perfume. Overall, pretty good for a blind buy but not a favourite of mine.

Skin Scent

It truly smells like a person's skin that just got out of the shower. I wish I smell the lactonic aspect of it, because that was the main reason why I bought it. Nonetheless, it's still nice but just not something I would grab all the time.

Soapy Clean Goodness!

This smells like clean skin! Not soap by its self, like your skin but clean. It’s wonderful and now on my full bottle list.

Interesting and mysterious.

This fragrance had some bitterness and sweaty skin like smell, but transformed into a soapy fresh scent, quite a ride. This fragrance has something very offputting, yet addictive. I see this as a unisex fragrance, great for the price. It’s worth a try..

Wanted to love it but...

this smells like underneath my grandma's kitchen sink- comet powder, old pipes, dust from 1935-present, a little mold, mustiness, old wood. my girlfriend said it smelled like "an old computer room". we wanted to love it, but hoo wee it smelled like the bad kind offensive and not the fun, perfume kind of offensive.
