All too often, patchouli scents seem to be apologizing for their star ingredient. "It's patchouli, " the refrain goes, "but it's not hippiepatchouli." Tempo, the wonderful new patchouli scent from Diptyque, defies such simple-minded rejection- after all, it's explicitly inspired by 60's counterculture- but those fearing unbearably thick earthiness and lack of nuance will surely be delighted by Tempo's complex, gorgeous subtlety, which weds three distinct types of patchouli to a perfectly balanced mix of mate and violet, delivering a scent both unapologetically patchouli-driven, yet undeniably sophisticated.
By building around a carefully calibrated mix of three sustainably-sourced, ethically-harvested varieties of Indonesian patchouli, Olivier Pescheux delivers a patchouli accord that celebrates all facets of the material: earthy, woodsy, spicy and sweet, all balanced against one another with subtle elegance. This careful balance is further enhanced with lively, green violet leaf and nutty, spicy mate, which serve to remove even the tiniest edges from the scent- the patchouli washes over you so gently that it's hard to even remember why it would ever be considered a divisive ingredient. Even if you long ago traded in your bell bottoms for designer jeans, give Tempo a chance- you may never think of patchouli the same way again.
Bergamot, pink pepper, patchouli, mate, clary sage, violet leaf
This is one of the Diptyque fragrances that packs a punch but sadly doesn't last as long as I would have hoped, a couple of hours at most. Beautiful patchouli and earthy notes and the sage makes it so unique.
Tempo nods in the direction of L'instant de Guerlain without the citrus, pepper and slightly dirty quality of L'instant. Cleaner, more modern all around vibe. Was tipped off by Sebastian Zara the youtube scent reviewer re Tempo in which he compared it to the original LIDGe which he is a big fan of but was discontinued. I only know the current L'instant which is more complex and has more layers than Tempo. I like L'instant a lot. Its classic, elegant and slightly dirty. Tempo is more linear and smooth. Tempo prob has more appeal for more people, is a very nice wearable scent while still having some art to it. L'instant is more male. Tempo is more unisex. More subtle. Performance is not stellar (based on sample, could be dif from the bottle). Neither are excellent at projection. Wear for personal or up close experiences.
Smell is amazing but it’s not very strong and only lasts a short awhile. Maybe a hour or two

Wonderful Patchouli fragrance. My favorite from this house. This and Eau Capitale are a must for any fragrance collector.
