There’s something magical in La Habana by the Swedish perfumery, 19-69, that sets it apart from the rest of the incense-forward perfumes in the niche market: the freshness emerging from the intensity of smoldering, woodsy, and animalic nuances.
Let’s start from the opening. It opens with an elaborate blend of saffron and elemi resin, whose softness gives it a wearability that many other incense-core perfumes lack. While the density of frankincense makes most of them resemble a church service, this fragrance takes the incense out of the sanctuary and adds an urban, stylish identity. It uses two main ingredients that greatly soften the coarseness of the rest: a warm and comfy vanilla and an airy, floating aldehyde.
While the main core spins around Laotian oud, hyrax (a super animalic ingredient), profound incense, and elemi resin, the vanilla absolute, aldehydes, and saffron adorn the darkness of the holy incense.
In general, La Habana is the best choice if you’re into smoky perfumes but are too afraid to smell like you just got out of a church attic after one hundred years! It’s gentle, wearable, and unisex.
Of course, in terms of performance, it is strong enough to cover you for several hours, but not so savage that it bores you the whole day – and that’s an important feature.
