Black Vanilla

Black Vanilla came out swinging with vanilla, but not the cozy, bakery, hug-in-a-sweater kind. This was sharp vanilla - like vanilla sharpened a knife and brought a musky sidekick. Dark? Yes. Interesting? Definitely. Pleasant? …eh, we’re negotiating.

To be fair, it really does live up to its name. There’s something shadowy and brooding here, like vanilla that listens to moody playlists and journals at night. Unfortunately, on my skin, that intrigue didn’t translate to love. From the opening, I was already side-eyeing it, and as it dried down, things went more synthetic, more powdery, and decidedly more floral. At some point, it fully crossed into “soft-focus, powder puff, floral cloud” territory - and I was no longer invited to the vibe.

I usually get along great with Mancera, so this felt like a breakup where no one technically did anything wrong - we’re just not compatible. It’s marketed as unisex, but on me, the powder-and-floral combo leans strongly feminine, especially in the dry down.
Performance-wise, it does its job. Projection is solid, and I got a respectable 6–7 hours on skin. But the real test? The wrist sniff. And I just… didn’t keep going back for it. If you love sharp vanilla paired with florals and powder (which, on paper, sounds amazing), this could absolutely be an easy, year-round daily scent for you.

For me though, it’s a polite pass. No full bottle in my future - but I respect what it’s trying to do, even if I don’t want to smell like it.

So disappointed - to my nose, the bergamot is overwhelming, and combined with the florals and musk, all I can think of is citrus cleaners or Swiffer wet wipes. Scrubbed off immediately.

I'm usually not fan of floras but this has none sweet vanilla in it and it takes the sweet floral. I can't think of anything to compare it to! This isn't a old lady floral but a new generation!

My wife and I very much enjoy this scent. We decided it was best suited for a man. The floral scent is very light.

A unique scent, right at first spray its a little fresh, then floral. I normally really dislike floral scents but the way this dries down with vanilla and Musk. It's sweet with a touch of florals. I want to describe it as honeyed florals. I think this leans more traditionally feminine, but is definitely a unisex scent.

I don't like it at all. Seems to be for very mature crowd
