First things first, don’t let the color of the bottle mislead you. You’re not reading a review of a pinkish fruity floral perfume. Crush is way deeper than that. Yes, you may say “but the notes… they look so delicate”. Akro Crush is an interpretation of the breathtaking beauty of the Bulgarian rose, the queen of flowers, but it’s a rose composition designed masterfully to be worn by men as well as women.
Once opened, the scent unfurls with a gauzy texture, displaying an unfiltered, raw, fully-from-nature rose which stays sharply apart from man-made examples with its natural impurity. From the beginning, there is a semi-soapy, soil-like quality that overpowers the rose and goes underneath when sweeter notes start to glow. Mingled with bergamot, almond, hazelnut, and litchi, the rose blooms its otherworldly seduction and gradually takes center stage and takes over the entire composition.
There’s a touch of scorching crispiness, equal to the ruby sky of a fiery desert at sunset, and it comes from notes that were kept unnamed by the manufacturer. However, a trained nose may detect the trace of patchouli and woodsy notes (vetiver and rosewood, maybe). Besides whatever it is, there’s a hefty touch of praline and vanilla, forming the perfume's base.
Like all the creations of Olivier Cresp, it has perfect longevity and good sillage, and perfect projection off the skin.
Perfumer Olivier Cresp did a great job in 1992 and began a new trend with Mugler’s Angel, named gourmand. He’s essentially doing it again. Akro Crush is an absolutely different and new type of floral fruity gourmand that leans to neither. Not completely floral, vaguely fruity, and not a typical gourmand. It doesn’t even look like any other perfume for the sake of Grasse! It’s one of a kind.
